St Hilda, The Hyde, Shephall, Stevenage (Roman Catholic)

Designed by Burles & Newton and built in 1961-62 in this eastern suburb of Stevenage.

Transfiguration of our Lord, Grove Road, Stevenage (Roman Catholic)

The original church dates from 1914 designed by E.H. Major, a taller east end added in 1937 but a newer front and interior reordering was carried out in 1984, designed by Williams & Winkley.

St Thomas of Canterbury and the English Martyrs, Royston (Roman Catholic)

On Melbourn Road on the north side of the town, a tall, slim church of 1916-19 designed by Benedict Williamson a priest. Its flat roof was replaced by the pitched roof in 1937 by A.H. Archard.

St Joseph and the English Martyrs, Bishops Stortford (Roman Catholic)

A couple of doors up the road from the Anglican parish church. It was designed by E. Doran Webb and built in 1904-07. An interesting interior, with arts and crafts glass by Paul Woodroffe from 1906 in a side chapel, which incorporates some medieval fragments.

Listed building details

Most Holy Redeemer, Sayesbury Road, Sawbridgeworth (Roman Catholic)

Originally a cinema of 1914 that closed in 1953. The first mass after conversion to a church was said in 1956, it was renovated in 1968 when the front elevation was much simplified.

The Good Shepherd, Shenley (Roman Catholic)

Outside the village, nearer to the old Anglican church than the village centre. It dates from 1976 and is a design by Lanner of Wakefield.

St Thomas More, Welham Green (Roman Catholic)

Right on the edge of Welham Green, a commuter settlement, it is a chapel of ease to Marychurch in Hatfield. It was designed by T.J. Denny and built in 1963 as a church hall but the church has never been built.

A rather forbidding church of 1959 just off the main village road. It was designed by David Stokes

Our Lady and Saint Vincent, Potters Bar (Roman catholic)

Designed by Francis Weal and Partners and built in 2003-05 to replace two earlier churches in the town. The glass is by Alex Le Rossignol.

St Alban and St Stephen, St Albans (Roman Catholic)

The church was built in 1903-05 and designed by John Kelley.It was extended eastwards and aisles and tower added in 1966-67 by Broadbent, Hastings, Reid & Todd.
