St Paul, St Albans
A church by J.E.K and J.P. Cutts from 1910. Reordered inside in 2010 with a reversed orientation and a large hall and office area added at the east end.

Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban, St Albans
Hertfordshire’s only cathedral was raised to this status in 1877. St Albans’ Abbey was dissolved in the reformation but the great church had remained as a parish church. The longest nave in England. The building was “restored” by Lord Grimthorpe from 1879 in an idiosyncratic style but much Norman and medieval work remains. There are many medieval wall paintings in the nave. The Shrine of St Alban between the choir and Lady Chapel has been restored.

St Stephen, St Albans
Well out of the city centre on the south side. Considerable saxon remains are found in the north wall where a Norman arch cuts into an earlier window. The chancel is Norman and the south chapel 13th century, this was only opened up into the chancel in the 20th century. The wooden bell turret is 19th century on a 15th century wooden structure. Restoration was by G.G. Scott in 1860. The west front still shows the end of the demolished north aisle.

St Peter, St Peter Street, St Albans
Closing the view at the northern end of the town centre. A large basically 15th century church virtually rebuilt by Lord Grimthorpe in 1894-95. The north aisle has many reset panels of medieval glass, the south many panels of very bright Belgian glass by Capronnier. Between 2023 and 2024 there was a big interior refurbishment replacing the 19th century floor and pews and the pulpit.
