Community of the Twelve Apostoles, Kentish Lane, Woodhill (Greek Orthodox) formerly St Mark

All alone at a road junction surrounded by fields. It was built in 1852 as a chapel of ease to Hatfield, rebuilt in 1880 and transferred to Essendon parish in 1915. It was declared redundant in 1976. In 1977 the Missionary Association of the Crusade of the Holy Spirit, a Roman Catholic organisation took it over. But in 1997 it was purchased by the Greek Orthodox Community of the Twelve Apostles who began holding services in 1999 with consecration following on October 1st 2000. A narthex has been added, together with Greek Orthodox fittings and stained glass. Since my first visit in 2014 the iconostasis has received its icons and many wall paintings have been added.
